Next Step Bible Study - Day One - YOU ARE SAVED

For one to be saved, it means that there must be something to be saved from. The truth about all humans is that God loves each one of us and that we were created in His image. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Not only are we created in God’s image but He loves every person. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

However, there is a sin problem that separates every one of us. Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Everyone one of us has sinned and we are separated from God and deserve eternal separation. Because of God’s love, He has made a way for us. Hebrews 9:22 says, “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” and Romans 5:8 says that “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

This good news that takes away the penalty of our sin is “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” - Romans 10:9. The cleansing
power of salvation is also revealed in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” The key to salvation is confessing our sins and believing that Jesus Christ is our Savior. If we claim to be without sin, then we cannot be saved. The last aspect of being saved is that it is incredibly good news which needs to be shared. We should go and tell others about this life transforming Gospel and this will con rm in our hearts that we are indeed saved children of God.

Answer and Reflect:

  1. In your own words, what does it mean to be saved?

  2. What are some sins that you have confessed or need to confess to Jesus Christ?

  3. How is the Lord purifying you?

Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross or me. If I was the only one walking the face of the earth, you still would have come to earth and died on the cross for me. Thank you for demonstrating your love for me. I confess my sins to you. Thank you for purifying me and making me more like you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Next Step Bible Study - Day Two - YOU ARE SET APART

Scripture: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacri ce, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” –Romans 12:1-2

Think About: Jesus gave the ultimate sacri ce when He died on the cross- exchanging His Holy perfection for our shame and guilt. The power of those things was defeated when He rose from the dead on the third day! He gives us the freedom to live, breathe, and move without the gripping power of death weighing on us.

In exchange, He asks- not out of obligation, but out of love- to offer ourselves back to Him as
LIVING sacri ces. How do we do this? By laying aside our old pattern of behavior, which belongs to the world, and becoming new in the mindset of Christ Jesus.
This could look like one of the following:

Answer and Re ect:

1. 2.

In your own words, what does it mean to be a living sacri ce?

What are some things that God might be asking you to change in your life in order to be a living sacri ce for Him?

How will you take steps to renew your mind this week?

• Giving up things that have controlled us in the past • Changing our habits to re ect Jesus’ habits
• Retraining our thoughts to re ect love instead of fear

God, I thank You for sending Your son Jesus to be a sacri ce for me on the cross. I pray that You would give me the wisdom and strength to live my life completely devoted to You as a living sacri ce. Teach me how to renew my mind daily and lead me into a deeper understanding of your love and grace through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Next Step Bible Study - Day Three - YOU ARE CHANGED

The Creator of the Universe has watched over you every moment up until now, and kept you close to His heart all this time. If you are reading this devotional - your spirit has ALREADY been made ALIVE through the Power of God Almighty, in the name of Jesus Christ! Woo Hoo! You are a new creation and ALL of Heaven is PARTY-ING with you over you choosing Jesus and so are we!!!

I ask you to take a thoughtful moment to read the following sentence :
“Who I was, before I invited Jesus Christ into my life, is NOT who I am any more.”
Scripture says in Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Now, in our falling, all of us have made mistakes. Scripture also tells us, in 1 Peter 5:8, that “we have an adversary, the devil” - who’s whole purpose is to cause division between you and your Creator and cause ultimate death in you (John 10:10). This same enemy will try and use your mistakes against you, and tries to call you by names associated with your past - which you should NO LON- GER RESPOND TO. All the enemy can use against you is trickery and deception and those attacks come in your thoughts.

Do any of these names resemble accusations you’ve heard in your head before.
Names like : “liar”, “cheater”, “adulterer”, “thief”, “fornicator”, “gossiper” ... and the list goes on.
Well, if so - I am here to tell you this: THE MOMENT YOU ASKED JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND CHANGE YOU, you were cleansed of your past sins, forgiven and justi ed (made like new, just-as-if-I’d-never-sinned) AND you were given NEW names to answer to. YES - you no longer have to answer to any of those old, shameful names again!

As I list some of the new names that your creator calls you, listen to them, let them sink in REAL deep! Get used to them because YOU ARE A NEW CREATION!!) Say out loud... “I am Holy”, “I am Anointed”, “I am Chosen”, “I have been Called by God”, “I am Royal”, “I am a Holy Nation, a Royal Priesthood” - yup!! He’s talking about YOU!!!

Scripture tells us, in 2 Corinthians 10:5, to “take EVERY thought CAPTIVE and MAKE IT OBEDIENT to Christ. You do this by stopping the negative thoughts in their tracks. You then choose to speak “OUT LOUD” the exact opposite (which is the Truth of Jesus found in His Word). Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes by HEARING and HEARING by the WORD OF GOD!” So as you are speaking out The Word of God your faith is growing! As you practice this discipline, you will begin to start walking in His con dence, with His blessing and you will see the fruit of LIFE popping up everywhere!

Please pray this prayer with me : “Heavenly Father - I thank You for ALL You’ve done for me. I ask You, Holy Spirit, to please show me more of Your truth about Who I Am In Christ so that I can make it my habit to speak it out over myself, and believe it. I ask this in the strong and mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen”

Next Step Bible Study - Day Four - YOU ARE A FOLLOWER OF CHRIST

In the Word of God, Jesus says:
The sheep that are My own, hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. (John 10:27 AMP)

I’m not hearing God speaking to me.

It is often overheard that the people of God feel like they cannot hear Him speak to them. There are a great deal of people out there, that say that they cannot hear the voice of God and yet.....once upon a time in your life, before you accepted Jesus into your life, there was this “Voice” gently asking you to surrender your life to Him. So if we can hear Him calling out to us to come to Him, then we can hear God speaking to us!

The scripture in John 10:27 says that “His sheep, (that would be us) hear His voice”. All we pretty much need to do is, say; “Lord, the Bible says that Your sheep, which is me, hear your voice so I believe that You have given me the ability to hear what You are saying to me”. Our choice in this needs to believe that He, God speaks to us, and that we hear His voice. If you can do that, you are on your way to learn on how to listen to the voice of God. Talk to Him. Tell the God how you feel. Share your concerns, doubts and questions. Then listen.

Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” The Bible is a gift that God has given you. It contains HIS words. One of the best ways to learn to recognize the voice of Jesus, our Shepherd, is to listen to His voice through the Bible. When we become familiar with His voice, we can hear Him clearly.

Prayer Starter:
Lord, I thank You that I can hear Your voice, so I choose to believe what you have written in the Bible about You being able to speak with me. I am going to be listening at all times because You are going to be telling wonderful things yet to come. Speak to me each time I open the Bible. Speak to me when I call out to you. Amen.

Next Step Bible Study - Day Five - YOU ARE A NEW CREATION

A New Creation:
Now that you’ve accepted Christ as your savior, you are a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefor if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” NLT

So what does it mean? Does it mean that everything is rainbows & butter ies, or that you’ll never face another problem? No, in fact as a believer, sometimes we are faced with some of life’s greatest challenges. Jesus says in John 16:33, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Being a “new creation” means we will have new ways of responding and handling these situations or trials. Our reliance is on Christ instead of relying on ourselves.

As a new creation, we will nd times where we want to fall back into our old behavior or pattern. We will face many temptations, but as a new creation we can call on the name of Jesus and He will always deliver us in our time of trou- ble! James 1:12-15 “God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong,* and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”

As a “New Creation” here are some awesome ways to keep your spiritual life healthy:
Bible Reading - Make sure that you always have your bible handy, whether it be on your smart phone, or a new leather bound bible, you must be in the Word daily. This will build you up on the inside. Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Prayer - Praying is one of the most awesome ways we communicate with God! 1Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Church - Church is where you will nd awesome support, a community of believers who will come alongside you and walk this journey with you. You will nd accountability and have an opportunity to get plugged into your “sweet-spot”! Hebrews 10:25 “25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.”

This is your NEW LIFE as a NEW CREATION, exciting things will be happening! God came to give life and give it to the FULL. So be prepared for the twists and turns of Christianity, and always remember to lean on Him in all things.

Next Step Bible Study - Day Six - YOU HAVE A NEW LIFE

...At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NLT

In [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace...

Ephesians 1:7

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

...(The Lord) has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Colossians 3:9-10 NLT

Next Step Bible Study - Day Seven - YOU ARE NOT ALONE

I’ve made a decision to follow Jesus Christ, what now?

Congratulations on your decision to follow Christ! This is the most important and exciting decision you have or will ever make in your life! Now that you’ve decided to follow Jesus, let’s talk about what has happened.

The moment that you confessed that you were a sinner, miraculous things took place. First and foremost, God instantly forgave you and chooses to no longer remember the sins you confessed (1 John 1:9, Hebrews 8:12). This is possible because God sent his only son Jesus, to to pay the penalty for our sins (John 3:16). In addition to your forgiveness, you were also given eternal life and were adopted into God’s spiritual family (Ephesians 1:4-5).

There are many exciting things that begin happening when we make the decision to become a Christ follower. But Jesus didn’t intend for us to walk this journey called life alone. Another super cool gift we are given at the moment of salvation is the Holy Spirit. John chapter 16 tells us that the Holy Spirit will be our guide, our teacher, and help us in making all of our decisions.

Becoming a Christian hasn’t taken away your desire to sin. You will still face temptations, and the Bible tells us that we will still have problems in life to deal with. The best news is, now you have the Holy Spirit and a church family to help guide you through these things! There is hope!
