03-04-18 - Shameless
Week 1 - Out of Sight, Out of Mind - Shame, No More

Theme Verse: Romans 8:1-2 NLT - So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

condemnation: the expression of very strong disapproval; censure; the action of condemning someone to a punishment; sentencing.

Two powers at work:
the power of the life-giving Spirit vs. the power of sin that leads to death

Romans 8:2 NLT
And because you belong to him
, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Series Synopsis:
The enemy wants to shame us and take away our rights as sons and daughters of the King. When we realize who we are and to whom we belong, we recognize that shame is no more. We learn our life is pardoned and redeemed, and that the love of the King is unchanging.

JESUS FORGAVE OUR SIN. HE TOOK IT OUT OF SIGHT, AND OUT OF MIND! #Shameless

Romans 4:7-8 NLT
7 “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. 8 Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.

Romans 5:8 ESV “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.”

THE BEGINNING OF SHAME

Genesis 2:25 NIV The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Genesis 3:7-8 NIV Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD….

WHAT ARE YOU ASHAMED OF?

GUILT IS: I DID BAD.

SHAME IS: I AM BAD.

SATAN’S SHAMEFUL CYCLE:
YOU EXPERIENCE SOMETHING DEEPLY PAINFUL.
YOU CONNECT WHAT HAPPENED WITH WHO YOU ARE. YOU BECOME A PRISONER TORMENTED BY YOUR PAST.

John 8:1-11 NIV
1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Romans 8:1-2 NLT - So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

To whom do you belong?

BRING YOUR SIN, YOUR PAIN, AND YOUR PAST TO CHRIST.

CHRIST CAN CHANGE YOUR FUTURE.

Response:
1) STOP HIDING YOUR SIN

Proverbs 28:13 NIV He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

2) STOP MANAGING YOUR SIN

3) GIVE JESUS YOUR SIN

Romans 4:7-8 NLT
7 “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. 8 Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.

Romans 8:28 NIV
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

THE LONGER WE CARRY A LABEL, THE LESS IT DESCRIBES OUR PAST AND MORE IT DETERMINES OUR FUTURE! #Shameless

Romans 1:4-8 NLT
4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

A LABEL MAY DESCRIBE YOU, BUT YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST DEFINES YOU! #Shameless

Week 4 - Relentless Love
03/25/18

Theme Verse:
Romans 8:1-2 NLT - So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

condemnation: the expression of very strong disapproval; censure; the action of condemning someone to a punishment; sentencing.

Romans 8:2 NLT
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Series Synopsis: The enemy wants to shame us and take away our rights as sons and daughters of the King. When we realize who we are and to whom we belong, we recognize that shame is no more. We learn our life is pardoned and redeemed, and that the love of the King is unchanging.

Today’s Theme Verse:
Romans 8:39 NIV
Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love.

1. GOD’S LOVE IS BIGGER THAN YOUR SHAME.

Romans 8:31-34 NIV
31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? If God is for us, who can be against us? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

No one can condemn us, because we were chosen as God’s own. #Shameless #MissionChurch

Shame condemns, love redeems. #Shameless #MissionChurch

THE LONGER WE CARRY A LABEL, THE LESS IT DESCRIBES OUR PAST AND MORE IT DETERMINES OUR FUTURE! #Shameless

Deuteronomy 7:9
Know therefore that the Lord you God is God, the faithful God who keeps a steadfast love with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations.

God’s love is steadfast and unchanging, He has and always will pursue us with relentless love. #Shameless #MissionChurch

1 Peter 4:7-8 NIV The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.

We don’t define people by their sin, we define them by God’s love. #Shameless #MissionChurch

2. GOD’S LOVE IS BIGGER THAN YOUR BAD DAY.

Romans 8:35-37 NIV
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

GOD’S LOVE PRODUCES VICTORY IN OUR LIVES NO MATTER WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US. #Shameless #MissionChurch

Psalm 34:1-3
I will praise the Lord no matter what happens. I will constantly speak of his glories and grace. 2 I will boast of all his kindness to me. Let all who are discouraged take heart. 3 Let us praise the Lord together and exalt his name.

Circumstances don’t define who we are, God’s love does. #Shameless #MissionChurch

3. GOD’S LOVE IS BIGGER THAN YOUR FEARS.

Romans 8:35-37 NIV
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

FEAR AND WORRY HAVE NO AUTHORITY OVER US, OUR AUTHORITY COMES FROM CHRIST ALONE. #SHAMELESS #MISSIONCHURCH

WHEN WE BELONG TO GOD, NOTHING CAN TAKE THAT AWAY. #Shameless #MissionChurch

God’s love was revealed through Jesus Christ, the ultimate sacrifice.

1 John 4:18 NIV

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because He first loved us.

You no longer have to accept shame-filled labels that others have put on you.
You no longer have to put negative labels on yourself.
You no longer have to label other people.

Lay down the old label...pick-up your identity in Christ.

I am chosen by God. -Romans 1:4

Easter Sunday
04/01/2018

1 Peter 1:3-5 NIV
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

THE RESURRECTION IS MEANT TO PRODUCE REAL RESULTS IN YOUR LIFE. #Resurrection #Shameless #RealResults

THE RESURRECTION IS MEANT TO PRODUCE REAL RESULTS IN YOUR LIFE TODAY. #Easter #Shameless #RealResults

I want the event that happened to become the way by which I live my life.

Ephesians 2:6 NIV
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus…

Series Synopsis: A Series on the Book of Romans
The enemy wants to shame us and take away our rights as sons and daughters of the King. When we realize who we are and to whom we belong, we recognize that shame is no more. We learn our life is pardoned and redeemed, and that the love of the King is unchanging.

The most important question that we will answer today:
What does it take to be made right with God?

Romans 3:22 NLT
22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

THE RESURRECTION POWER OF JESUS IS MEANT FOR YOU. #Easter #Shameless #RealResults

Romans 1:2-6 NLT
2 God promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures. 3 The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, 4 and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name. 6 And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.

YOU ARE INCLUDED!

YOU BELONG.

1 Corinthians 15:3b-4 NLT
Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ…

1. We can be free and forgiven by Jesus' death. #Shameless
    (Isaiah 56:6-10, Romans 4:25)

    Romans 8:1 (God knows everything)

2. God loves us unconditionally. You are valuable.
    (John 3:16,17, 1 John 13:34-35)

3. Jesus defeated death so we don't have to fear it. (2 Peter 1:16, Acts 1:3, 1
Corinthians 15:3-8) We can be certain of a future in heaven. (1 Peter 1:4, 1
    Corinthians 2:9, John 14:6,
    Romans 10:9)

4. We get to have God's spirit inside us. (Acts 1:8, Ephesians 1:19-20)

5. God has a greater purpose for our lives. (Mark 8:35, Acts 15:26, 2 Corinthians
    4:17-18, Philippians 1:21)

Mark 16:15-20 NLT
15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. 16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. 17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” 19 When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 20 And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.

Romans 1:16-17 NLT
16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

THE RESURRECTION IS MEANT TO PRODUCE REAL RESULTS IN YOUR LIFE TODAY. #Easter #Shameless

IT IS THE POWER OF GOD AT WORK.

I want the event that happened to become the way by which I live my life. #Easter #Shameless

Romans 3:22 NLT
22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

Response:
1. Do you need Jesus to free you and forgive you of sin?

2. Do you need confidence that death has been defeated for you and that your future is
    certain in heaven?

3. Do you need a greater purpose for your life?

My Big Fat Mouth

Week 1 - Complaining
May 6, 2018

Words are powerful. They can beat us down and lift us up. They wound and they heal. And the right words at the right time can be exactly what we need to hear—or what we need to say.

Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Philippians 2:14-15 NIV
14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.

Exodus 14:10-12 NLT
10 As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, 11 and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? 12 Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’” 13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. 14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

Exodus 16:8
“...You are not grumbling against us, but against the Lord.”

Numbers 13:27-33 NLT
27 This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. 28 But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! 29The Amalekites live in the Negev, and the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country. The Canaanites live along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and along the Jordan Valley.” 30 But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”

31 But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” 32 So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. 33 We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!”

Numbers 14:1- CEB
1 The entire community raised their voice and the people wept that night. 2 All the Israelites criticized Moses and Aaron. The ENTIRE community said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt or if only we had died in this desert!”

Have you ever had a “Let’s go at once to take the land” MOMENT & everyone shot you down…

THE COST OF COMPLAINING

1)    COMPLAINING OFFENDS THE HEART OF GOD.

 Numbers 11:1-2 NIV
Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

2)    COMPLAINING CARRIES SIGNIFICANT CONSEQUENCES.

 Numbers 14:27-28, 30 NIV
"How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites. 28 So tell them, 'As surely as I live… 30 Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home...

What in your life do you complain about most?

IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF YOUR LIFE, CHANGE THE DECLARATION OF YOUR LIPS. #MissionChurch #MyBigFatMouth

IS MY CONVERSATION HELPFUL OR HURTFUL?

Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.

Philippians 2:14-15
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.

IF YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

IF YOU CAN’T CHANGE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES, CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE. #MissionChurch #MyBigFatMouth

Philippians 2:17-18
But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Philippians 1:12-13
Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

1 Peter 3:10 NIV
For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.

THE VOICE YOU BELIEVE WILL DETERMINE THE FUTURE YOU EXPERIENCE. #MissionChurch #MyBigFatMouth

Philippians 4:13 NLT
I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.

Psalm 103:2-5 NLT
Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things.

HE FILLS MY LIFE WITH GOOD THINGS!!

Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

…For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45

Response Questions:
What do you complain about most? Where do you most need to change your circumstances or your perspective?

Read Philippians 1:12-13. How could you, like Paul, flip your perspective about the struggles your facing?

What are some blessings you haven’t been grateful for lately?

How can regularly you turn these blessings into gratitude toward God?

Week 2 - Believing & Achieving
May 13, 2018 - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Words are powerful. They can beat us down and lift us up. They wound and they heal. And the right words at the right time can be exactly what we need to hear—or what we need to say.

Proverbs 18:21 NIV
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF YOUR LIFE, CHANGE THE DECLARATION OF YOUR LIPS. #MissionChurch #MyBigFatMouth

Proverbs 12:22 NLT
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.

THE ONLY WEAPON THE ENEMY HAS AGAINST US IS LYING.

John 8:44
“… He [the devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

THE DEVIL’S PLAN

  1. GET YOU TO LIE.
  2. GET YOU TO LIE TO YOURSELF.
  3. GET YOU TO LIVE A LIE.

…I AM …God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.  Ephesians 2:10 NLT

I CAN do all things through CHRIST who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 NIV

John 8:32 NIV
Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

If you'll do the believing, JESUS WILL do the achieving. #Speak Life #Truth

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NIV
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Ephesians 4:21-25 NLT
Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. 25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.

1 John 2:4
Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

THE ROOT REASON MOST OF US LIE IS BECAUSE WE DON’T COMPLETELY TRUST GOD. #SpeakLife #Truth

WHAT TRUTH DO YOU NEED TO BELIEVE AND TRUST GOD FOR?

Proverbs 12:22 NLT
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.

GOD’S PLAN

WE CONFESS THE LIE/LIES TO GOD AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS.

Proverbs 28:13
He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

WE NEED EACH OTHER. WE CONFESS OUR SINS TO EACH OTHER TO FIND HEALING.

James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed …

Response Questions:

  1. What lie are you allowing the enemy to speak over your life?
  2. What lie are you speaking over yourself?
  3. What lie/lies do you need to confess to Jesus and share with a trusted friend in order to walk in freedom?

My Big Fat Mouth Week
May 27, 2018
Fault Finder or Hope Dealer?

Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

I CHOOSE TO HONOR GOD WITH THE WAY I THINK, TALK, AND LIVE.
#MyBigFatMouth #MissionChurch

THINKING CRITICALLY IS A SKILL. BEING CRITICAL IS A SNARE.
#MyBigFatMouth #MissionChurch

IT’S EASY TO FEEL OFFENDED WHEN OTHERS CRITICIZE US, BUT JUSTIFIED
WHEN WE CRITICIZE OTHERS. #MyBigFatMouth #MissionChurch

Galatians 5:14-15 NLT
14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your
neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another. What if my mouth is destroying my family? My Marriage? My Kids’ hopes/dreams?

What if my critical words are destroying my ability to share Jesus?

Proverbs 12:18 NLT
18 Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.

Scripture: CONTRASTS. Two types of people: Fault Finders…Hope Dealers

FAULT FINDER

Something is always wrong. Sees the problem in every situation…never good enough.

Pharisees were fault finders.

Matthew 11:18-19 NLT
18 For John didn’t spend his time eating and drinking, and you say, ‘He’s possessed by a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.”

FAULT FINDERS CRITICIZE OUT OF INSECURITY.

FAULT FINDERS CRITICIZE WHAT THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND.

FAULT FINDERS SPEND MORE TIME GRADING PEOPLE AND LESS TIME SERVING PEOPLE. #MyBigFatMouth

HOPE DEALER

Romans 15:13 NLT
13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through thepower of the Holy Spirit.

GOD IS IN THE BUSINESS OF GIVING HOPE TO THE HOPELESS!
#MyBigFatMouth

John 8:1-11 NLT
Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, 2 but early the next morning he was back
again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them.
3 As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a
woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the
crowd. 4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of
adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him,
but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept
demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one
who has never sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and
wrote in the dust. 9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one,
beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with
the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your
accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

HOW TO SHIFT FROM FAULT FINDING TO HOPE DEALING

1) SEE WHAT’S RIGHT BEFORE YOU SEE WHAT’S WRONG.

1 Corinthians 13:7 ESV
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

“Believes all things” - Believes the best about a person; that there is good in

them.

2) DON’T JUST POINT OUT PROBLEMS, OFFER SOLUTIONS.

ANYONE CAN OFFER CRITICISM, BUT GODLY PEOPLE OFFER SOLUTIONS. #MyBigFatMouth #MissionChurch

3) DROP THE CLIPBOARD, AND GRAB A TOWEL.

John 13:3-5 NLT
3 Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he
had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took
off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin.
Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had
around him.

IT’S EASY TO FEEL OFFENDED WHEN OTHERS CRITICIZE US, BUT JUSTIFIED WHEN WE CRITICIZE OTHERS. #MyBigFatMouth #MissionChurch

Galatians 5:14-15 NLT
14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out!

Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

GOD IS IN THE BUSINESS OF GIVING HOPE TO THE HOPELESS! #MyBigFatMouth

Tough Questions Lower Third.jpg

Tough Questions
Real Questions...Real Truth

Week 1 - 04/08/18

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT - All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Questions:

Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?

How do I deal with anger toward God for the pain He allows in my life?

How do you talk about God to someone who suffering or facing disease or special needs?
When something goes bad (like when someone you love dies) why doesn’t God fix that?

Why would God let someone shoot kids in a school?

_____________________________________

Matthew 5:45b NLT
For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

If you take away the choice to do wrong, you take away the choice to do right.

_____________________________________

Life would not be a challenge if we could sync up our faith with God’s schedule.

Revelation 21:3-4 NLT
3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

Life would not be a challenge if God would mark harvest season on your schedule.

Matthew 13 - The seed is only as good as the condition of the THE FERTILE SOIL produced a harvest of thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times increase…

The question isn’t whether or not there is going to be a harvest, the question is when will the season of increase come?

Matthew 11:1-3 NIV
After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee. 2 When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”

YOU AND I HAVE PERMISSION TO ASK GOD FOR GOOD THINGS, AND QUESTION HIM ON THE BAD THINGS BUT DON’T STOP HAVING FAITH AND PREPARING THE SOIL FOR THE HARVEST.

Matthew 11:4-6 NIV
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.

Matthew 11:11 NIV
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist.

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WRESTLE WITH DOUBTS WHEN YOU ARE IN THE PRISON OF LIFE'S CIRCUMSTANCES BUT DON’T STOP HAVING FAITH AND PREPARING THE SOIL FOR THE HARVEST.

WHEN YOU ARE STUCK IN A PRISON REMEMBER:

YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES ARE NOT AN INDICATOR OF HOW GOD FEELS ABOUT YOU. THE CROSS IS THE INDICATOR OF HOW GOD FEELS ABOUT YOU. #ToughQuestions #MissionChurch

Psalm 34:18 NLT
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;

WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH TODAY DOES NOT NULLIFY WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN THE PAST, NOR WHAT HE IS DOING IN THE WORLD OUTSIDE OF OUR CIRCUMSTANCES, NOT WHAT GOD WILL DO IN THE FUTURE. #ToughQuestions #MissionChurch

Matthew 11:4 NIV
4
Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Remind yourself of God’s faithfulness and power.

WHEN LIFE HIT’S HARD, THE QUESTION ISN’T “WHY ME?”  THE QUESTION IS “WHAT NOW?”

Philippians 1:12-14 NLT
12 And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. 13 For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. 14 And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.

DON’T STOP HAVING FAITH AND PREPARING THE SOIL FOR THE HARVEST.

THE INCREASE IS COMING!

GOD ALWAYS TURNS TODAY’S “BAD” INTO TOMORROW’S “GOOD.”#ToughQuestions #MissionChurch

Romans 8:28 NIV
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF GOOD?

WHAT IF THE ULTIMATE DEFINITION OF “GOOD” IS TO BECOME MORE LIKE JESUS?

Romans 8:29 NIV
29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son…

Whatever you’re going through right now is preparing you for the increase.

God sets up your struggles for a greater purpose. DON’T STOP HAVING FAITH AND PREPARING THE SOIL FOR THE HARVEST.

THE HARVEST IS COMING! THE MIRACLE IS COMING! THE BREAKTHROUGH IS COMING!

Response:

SO WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE HURTING AND ANGRY WITH GOD?

TELL GOD HOW YOU FEEL!

Then remember...
OUR CIRCUMSTANCES ARE NOT AN INDICATOR OF HOW GOD FEELS ABOUT US.

WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH TODAY DOES NOT NULLIFY WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN THE PAST, NOR WHAT HE IS DOING IN THE WORLD OUTSIDE OF OUR CIRCUMSTANCES

GOD ALWAYS TURNS TODAY’S “BAD” INTO TOMORROW’S ETERNAL “GOOD.”

DON’T STOP HAVING FAITH AND PREPARING THE SOIL FOR THE HARVEST.

THE HARVEST IS COMING!

It’s all for a greater purpose!

The Space Between
Week 1 - God’s Gift of Life
06/03/2018

GOD HAS GIVEN YOU THE GIFT OF TIME.

TIME IS A GIFT FROM GOD.

YOU ARE THE STEWARD OF YOUR TIME.

THE ENEMY CAN CREATE CHAOS IN YOUR SCHEDULE BUT THE ENEMY CANNOT STEAL YOUR TIME. #Time #TheSpaceBetween

Psalm 46:1-11 NLT
1 God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
4 A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
5 God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
6 The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
7 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.
8 Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.
9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”
11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.

THE ENEMY CAN CREATE CHAOS IN YOUR SCHEDULE BUT THE ENEMY CANNOT STEAL YOUR TIME. #Time #TheSpaceBetween

WE HAVE A GOD THAT IS FIGHTING FOR US.

Psalm 46:1 NLT
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

Psalm 46:11 NLT
11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.

God wants guys to trust Him and activate our FAITH!

Romans 8:18 KJV
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Stop waiting for what you want, and start working what you have.
#Time #TheSpaceBetween

YOU HAVE TIME!

GOD CAN TURN THE ENEMIES CHAOS INTO YOUR GREATEST POTENTIAL. #Time #TheSpaceBetween

LIFE IS A GIFT THAT GOD HAS DESIGNED USING SPACE AND MARGIN.

Why do we need to create margin for God?
-We need God to fight for us.
-We need margin in our lives so that we can enjoy the things God does give us.
-We need margin with which to serve God and serve others.

THE PROBLEM:

TIME IS OFTEN DRIVEN BY OUR DESIRE FOR STUFF.
STUFF REQUIRES MONEY.
MAKING MONEY TAKES TIME.

1 Timothy 6:17-18 NLT
17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

GOD WANTS US TO ENJOY LIFE AND THE THINGS HE HAS GIVEN US.

Psalm 46:10 NLT
10 Be still, and know that I am God!

***KEY QUESTION: Are you enjoying the journey of life?

God doesn’t just want us to be alive, but He wants us to enjoy being alive. #TheSpaceBetween #Life

How do we enjoy life?
We give margin to the author of life!

John 15:5-11 NLT
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. 9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!

CREATE MARGIN FOR GOD.
SPEND TIME READING HIS WORD.
PRAY.
TRUST HIM.
SERVE HIM.
GIVING MARGIN TO GOD IS THE BEST INVESTMENT YOU CAN MAKE.

THE ENEMY CAN CREATE CHAOS IN YOUR SCHEDULE BUT THE ENEMY CANNOT STEAL YOUR TIME. #Time #TheSpaceBetween

Psalm 46:1 NLT
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

Psalm 46:11 NLT
11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.

Response Questions:

  1. Are you enjoying the journey of life?
  2. Are you giving margin and space to God?
  3. Is there any area of your life that you need to surrender to God because the enemy is using it to create chaos in your schedule?

The Space Between
Week 4 - God’s Gift of Rest
06/24/2018

WE NEED BREATHING ROOM. #TheSpaceBetween

Breathing room is the space between your pace and your limit. #TheSpaceBetween

Matthew 11:28-30 NLT
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

GOD REALLY WANTS US TO FIND REST.
HE WANTS US TO ENJOY LIFE.
HE WANTS US TO BE BURDEN FREE.

What are you yoked to?
-Work
-Addiction / Substance / Porn
-Relationship

It takes faith to put God first.

Are you giving God your best? Or what's left?

Matthew 6:33 NLT

33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

JUST ONE MORE COULD STEAL THE PEACE YOU LONG FOR OR THE PATIENCE YOU NEED FOR THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE. #TheSpaceBetween

2 Timothy 3:2-5 ESV
2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

WE WANT TO BE LOVERS OF GOD.

2 Corinthians 4:5-7 NLT
5 You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

WE NEED THE TRUE POWER THAT ONLY COMES FROM BEING YOKED TO JESUS!

Response Questions:
Who or what is taking first place in your life?
Are you willing to give that place to Jesus?
Do you trust that Jesus will lead you in everything else?

Tough Questions
Real Questions...Real Truth
Week 2 - 04/15/18

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT - All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Questions:
How do I get into heaven?
When we get to heaven, are we judged for the way we lived our lives on earth?
What happens when you go to heaven?
Can a person who commits suicide go to heaven?
Is there more than one way to get to heaven?
Is there really a hell?
How could a loving God send anyone to hell?_____________________________________

WHAT YOU BELIEVE ABOUT DEATH AND ETERNITY WILL DETERMINE HOW YOU LIVE. #ToughQuestions #MissionChurch

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT DEATH?

  1. DEATH IS CERTAIN.

Studies  are  conclusive. Approximately one out of one people die. They do.  In fact, you’re going to die.  I’m going to die.  Unless you are a believer and Jesus returns in your lifetime, you are going to die.  Scripture says it very simply,  Hebrews  9:27,  the  Bible  says…

27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:27-28 NIV

First, we know that death is certain. Second, we know that…

  1. THE SOUL AND THE BODY SEPARATE.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 NIV

…the one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by
believing in me will never die. John 11:25-26 NIV

What do we know about death?  It’s for certain.  Second, we know that the soul and the body will separate.  Number three, we know that eventually, you will face the judgment.

You will face the judgment.

  1. YOU WILL FACE THE JUDGMENT

Hebrews 9:27, again …Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment… Hebrews 9:27 NIV

THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF JUDGEMENT:

  • GREAT WHITE THRONE.

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it…And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-12, 15 NIV

Matthew 7:13-14 NIV
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and many are on on it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life and only a few find it.

Let’s talk about two Biblical reasons why Hell exists.

WHY DOES HELL EXIST?

A) HELL EXISTS FOR GOD TO DEAL RIGHTEOUSLY WITH SATAN.

…Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Matthew 25:41 NIV

B)  HELL EXISTS FOR GOD TO DEAL RIGHTEOUSLY WITH THE UNBELIEVERS.

He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might… 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 NIV

THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS

"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. Luke 16:19-21 NIV

"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' Luke 16:22-24 NIV

  • HELL IS A PLACE OF UNSPEAKABLE SUFFERING.

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. Matthew 5:29 NIV

…'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.' Luke 16:27-28 NIV

LESSONS FROM THE OTHER SIDE

  • THE RICH MAN WAS FULLY CONSCIOUS.
  • HIS ETERNAL DESTINY WAS IRROVACABLY FIXED.
  • HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS EXPERIENCING WAS JUST.

HE PLEADED FOR SOMEONE TO HELP HIS LOVED ONES KNOW JESUS

GOD DOESN’T WANT ANYONE TO GO TO HELL.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 NIV

GOOD NEWS — THERE IS ANOTHER JUDGEMENT SEAT

  • JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST.

For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. Romans 14:10b NIV

2 Corinthians 5:10 NIV - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT.

  • Incorruptible Crown 1 Cor. 9:25-27
  • Crown of Righteousness 2 Tim 4:8
  • Crown of Rejoicing 1 Thes 2:19-20
  • Crown of Glory 1 Pet 5:4
  • Crown of Life Ja 1:12, Rev 2:10

(A person’s) work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 NIV

What do we know about heaven?

…"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" 1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV

Psalm 84:10 NIV
Better is one day in your courts, O Lord, than a thousand elsewhere.

Psalms 16:11, “You will find joy.  You, you will fill me with joy in your presence with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

A GLIMPSE INTO HEAVEN

1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:1-4 NIV

WHAT YOU BELIEVE ABOUT DEATH AND ETERNITY WILL DETERMINE HOW YOU LIVE. #ToughQuestions #MissionChurch

How can I guarantee my place in heaven?

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT - All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

What’s the deal with prayer?
Does God actually respond to our prayers?
Can we change God’s mind when we pray?
What do you do when God doesn’t answer your prayer?

Question: "Does prayer change God’s mind?"

Answer: This question can be best answered by breaking it into two questions:

  1. Does prayer change God’s mind?
  2. Does prayer change things?

The answer to the first is, no, God does not change His mind. The answer to the second is, yes, prayer changes things. So how can prayer change circumstances without changing God’s mind?

First of all, in order for God to change His mind, He would have to improve upon Himself in some way.

It is not possible for Him to improve upon any plan that He has made.

2 Samuel 22:31 NLT
God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

So if prayer does not change God’s mind, why do we pray?

Does prayer change our circumstances? YES!

God delights in changing our circumstances in response to our prayers of faith. #Prayer #MissionChurch

Jesus instructed us to “always pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1). First John 5:14–15 also reminds us that, when we pray according to God’s will, He hears and answers. The key phrase is “according to His will.”

That will also includes His timing.

In a similar way, our heavenly Father invites us to ask Him for everything we need. He delights to give it to us when it is within His plan. He knows we don’t always understand His timing, but He expects us to trust and not doubt (James 1:5–6; Matthew 6:8).

Our prayers help to align our hearts with His heart until His will is our highest goal. #Prayer #MissionChurch

He promises to listen and grant the desires of our hearts when our hearts are wholly His (Psalm 37:4; 2 Chronicles 16:9).

PSALM 139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me, and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

1) SEARCH MY HEART
Search me, God, and know my heart...Psalm139:23a

The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Jeremiah 17:9 NLT

2) REVEAL MY FEARS.

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalm 139:23

What we fear the most reveals where we trust God the least. #Prayer #MissionChurch

3) UNCOVER MY SINS.=

See if there is any offensive way in me....Psalm 139:24

4) LEAD ME.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:24

Psalm139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Tough Questions: REAL ANSWERS

Week 4 - 04/29/18

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT - All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Tough Questions:
How do I break the addiction of pornography in my life?
Is it okay to live with someone you are not married to?
Is homosexuality a sin?___________________________________________

John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus came full of Grace and Truth.

“Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.” ― Warren W. Wiersbe

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NLT
1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. 4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

PEOPLE MATTER.

James 2:10 NLT
For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.

ALL OF US NEED JESUS EQUALLY!

1 Peter 1:2 NLT
God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

THE MORE YOU COME TO A KNOWLEDGE OF WHO JESUS IS THE MORE GRACE YOU HAVE FOR OTHER PEOPLE AND THE MORE PEACE YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE. #grace #peace #MissionChurch

Jesus was called the friend of sinners.

Luke 15:1-2 NLT
1 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!

The Bible provides God’s blueprint for marriage and for His good gift of sex in Genesis 2:24. The gift is only to be enjoyed within a marriage between a man and a woman.

Genesis 2:24 NLT
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

The Bible uses this blueprint from the beginning to the end.

Ephesians 5:1-10, 21-30 NLT
1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. 4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. 5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

6 Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. 7 Don’t participate in the things these people do. 8 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.

10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.

21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. 25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body.

31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”

32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

James 2:10 NLT
For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.

ALL OF US NEED JESUS EQUALLY!

Response Questions:

  1. Are you walking the way that Jesus walked? With grace and truth?
  2. Are you loving people in a way that creates a place for people to belong? Are you a friend of sinners?
  3. Are you twisting God’s blueprint for marriage?
  4. For Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, we must submit to His blueprint for living, are you willing to repent of any sin that separates you from God and repent of that sin?

What Lies Within Week 2
The Root of Resentment

Proverbs 4:23 NIV
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Hebrews 12: 14-15 NIV
14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness
no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and
that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

BITTER ROOTS MAKE BITTER FRUITS. #WhatLiesWithin

HOW IS THE FRUIT IN YOUR LIFE?

Galatians 5:19-21 MSG
19-21 It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all
the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and
emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magicshow
religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yetnever-
satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided
homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of
depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions;
ugly parodies of community.

BITTER ROOTS MAKE BITTER FRUITS.
#WhatLiesWithin

THE BITTER ROOT OF RESENTMENT

Resentment
noun
1. the feeling of displeasure or indignation at some act, remark, person, etc.,regarded as causing injury or insult.

“Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping that will kill your enemies.” -
Nelson Mandela #WhatLiesWithin

RESENTMENT FROM THE PAST ERODES RELATIONSHIPS IN THE PRESENT

Matthew 6:14-15 CEB
“If you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your sins.”

RESENTMENT FROM THE PAST WILL SABOTAGE YOUR FUTURE JESUS DOESN’T JUST WANT TO MODIFY YOUR BEHAVIOR. HE WANTS TO TRANSFORM YOUR HEART. #WhatLiesWithin

Ephesians 4:31-32 NIV
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

FORGIVENESS KILLS THE BITTER ROOT OF BITTERNESS.

3 CHOICES THAT WILL HELP YOU TO FORGIVE

1) I CHOOSE TO SEE THE PERSON BEFORE I SEE THEIR SIN

Ephesians 4:32a NIV
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another…

IT’S EASY TO JUDGE OTHERS BY THEIR ACTIONS, AND OURSELVES BY OUR INTENTIONS. #WhatLiesWithin

2) I CHOOSE HUMILITY OVER PRIDE

Ephesians 2:1-3
At one time you were like a dead person because of the things you did wrong and your offenses against God. You used to live like people of this world. You followed the rule of a destructive spiritual power. At one time you were like those persons.

Ephesians 4:32 NIV
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Mark 11:25 CEB
"And whenever you stand up to pray, if you have something against anyone, forgive so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your wrongdoings."

WE CANNOT HOLD THE GRACE OF GOD AND THE SINS OF OTHERS AT THE SAME TIME. #WhatLiesWithin

3) I CHOOSE TO LET GOD HEAL ME

1 Peter 2:24 NIV
24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Psalm 103:3 NLT
“He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.”

BITTER ROOTS MAKE BITTER FRUITS. #WhatLiesWithin

Galatians 5:22-23 MSG
22-23 But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

WHEN JESUS HEALS YOUR PAST, YOU’LL HAVE JOY FOR TODAY, AND HOPE FOR TOMORROW. #WhatLiesWithin

Is there a root of resentment from a past hurt?

Do I need to forgive something from the past, so that I can move into the future?

Do I need forgiveness?

Matthew 16: 18b-19 ESV

I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

THE CHURCH IS NOT A BUILDING, ITS A MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE CREATED TO CONTINUE THE WORK THAT JESUS BEGAN. #WhyChurch

Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near

WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER. #WhyChurch

Luke 1:37 NIV
1:37 For no word from God will ever fail.

Proverbs 13:13 ESV
13 Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandments will be rewarded.

GREAT MOVES OF GOD ARE PRECEDED BY SIMPLE ACTS OF OBEDIENCE. #WhyChurch #MissionChurch

James 1:22-25 NIV
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

GOD IS REALLY BIG ON PROGRESS.
#WhyChurch

John 15:4-8 NIV
4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

YOUR SUCCESS IS ONLY AS SUSTAINABLE AS ITS SOURCE.

#WhyChurch #MissionChurch

3 TURNING POINTS FOR SUCCESS:

1. TURN WHEN INTO NOW.

Psalm 118:24 NLT
This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Proverbs 27:1 NLT
Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.

2. TURN INTENTIONS INTO ACTIONS.

James 4:17 NIV
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

Proverbs 3:27 NIV
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor," Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow" — when you now have it with you.

3. TURN YOUR WHOLE HEART TOWARD JESUS.

Mark 12:34 NIV When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God.”

JESUS DIDN’T DIE TO MAKE BROKEN PEOPLE FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEIR BROKENNESS. HE DIED TO MAKE BROKEN PEOPLE WHOLE.  #WhyChurch

Why Church - Week 3
Why should I be a part it?

1 Corinthians 12:27 NLT
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

How am I a part of it? Your life is a message to the world.

Psalm 19:1-4, 14 NLT
1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
2 Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
3 They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.

14 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Actions speak louder than words.

Every day, your life is preaching a sermon?

SOME OF THE LOUDEST SERMONS YOU PREACH WILL BE WITH YOUR THOUGHTS. #WhyChurch

Thoughts turn into actions.

Exodus 9:16 NIV
But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

Matthew 16:13-20 NLT
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

You are a part of the body of Christ, you are a part of the church.

THE POWERS OF HELL WILL NOT CONQUER IT.

THE POWERS OF HELL WILL NOT CONQUER YOU!

What message are you preaching to yourself?

Isaiah 54:3 NLT
3 For you will soon be bursting at the seams. Your descendants will occupy other nations and resettle the ruined cities.

THE DEVIL IS NOT AFRAID OF A BIG CHURCH; HE IS AFRAID OF THE UNITED CHURCH. #WhyChurch

Romans 8:31-35 NIV
If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

THE CHURCH IS THE HOPE OF THE WORLD AND YOU ARE A PART OF IT!
